Middle and High School Applicants (Grades 4-12)


Thank you for your interest in Dalton's Middle or High School! 


For those interested in applying to attend Dalton in the 2009-2010 academic year, we are already accepting requests for applications and will mail out applications at the end of August 2008.   Please note that we are fully enrolled for the 2008-2009 academic year and therefore we are no longer accepting applications for enrollment during 2008-2009.

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION

Required Materials and Visits

All items listed here are required and must be submitted by the stated deadlines in order for a student to be considered for admission.

Application Form

We are currently accepting application requests for the 2009-2010 academic year.  We will send out applications beginning in late August, and the deadline for submitting an application for the 2009-2010 academic year will be in late November 2008 (exact date TBD).  Request an application to be mailed to you by clicking here.

Family Admissions Visit

One comprehensive visit to the school is required as part of the application process. We will call you to schedule your family's visit after we receive your Application Form. This visit will include a private tour of the school for your family, an information session with one of our Admissions staff members, an individual parents meeting with the Director or Assistant Director of Admissions, a class visit for the student, and the student's interview with a faculty or staff member. This visit is scheduled during the school day and will take approximately two hours. All visits begin in October and will be scheduled no later than mid-January.

Student's Writing Sample

Must be submitted at least 10 days prior to the family's admissions visit to Dalton.

Standardized Testing


We require each applicant to take either the Educational Records Bureau Test (ISEE) or the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT). No other testing is required. To schedule a test date, contact the ERB office at (212) 672-9800 or visit their website , or the SSATB office at (609) 683-4440 or the SSAT website . Make sure to request the test results to be sent directly to Dalton. This testing should be taken no earlier than September 2008 and no later than December 15, 2008 .

Student's Transcript


The student's transcript from the current school year (with fall semester grades and/or teacher reports) must be submitted to Dalton by January 4, 2009 . If you need an additional copy of the Transcript Release Form, please click here .

Teacher Reference Forms


One English, one Math, and one Confidential Teacher's Reference Form are required to be submitted. References must be from the student's current year teacher(s). The Confidential Teacher's Recommendation form may be completed by the same teacher who completed the English or Math reference form, or by another current teacher or administrator who knows your child well. All applicants will be notified in accordance with the timetable of ISAAGNY (Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York). 

Optional Materials and Visits

We want this process to be as low-stress as possible. Please be assured that these items are completely optional.

Open House

We cordially invite you and your family (including students!) to attend our Middle School and High School Open House in late October (exact date TBD) . The Open House gives applicants and prospective applicants an opportunity to view our facilities as well as meet students, faculty and administrators, who will describe our Middle School and High School programs to you. 

Group "Preview" Tours

These larger group tours are available as an option to families who would like to preview the school before deciding to apply.

Group "preview" tours will be offered in the fall beginning in October.  Please check this website or call the Admissions office in September for exact dates and times.

Parent Statement

This is an optional opportunity for parents to express their interest in The Dalton School and their reasons for applying.
