The Alumni Conversation Series kicked off this school year on October 23 with a thoroughly enjoyable musical evening for members of the Dalton community. Introduced by Alumni Association president Charles Simon ’84, Grammy award- winning composer and singer Rosanne Cash was interviewd by Vanity Fair editor Bruce Handy. Roseanne described what her late father Johnny Cash’s legacy has meant to her and how leading a life of music over three generations affects her children. “I never took an academic approach to giving music to my kids,” she said. “I have learned hip hop from my son, and my daughter is releasing her first record.”

It was a fantastic homecoming weekend on September 25-26. The festivities began at the Phys. Ed. Center with two exciting volleyball matches against Fieldston on Friday. The JV team fell in three games in a closely fought battle with the Eagles before the varsity swept Fieldston in two.

Dalton then inducted six individuals and two teams into the Hall of Fame. Inductees included the 2000 Football team that won the Fairchester League Championship and the 1999 state champion Volleyball team. Also enshrined were Jon Abbey '88, Lauren Bernhardt '98; Ryan Ewers `02; Eddie Kaplan `87; Dee Martin `02; and Sarah Wild `00. All the varsity teams then got ready for their contests with a very spirited pep rally.  Read More

The Original Mind program with Artist David Macaulay is up and running. As part of this program, students and faculty have received sketch books so that they can give sketching a try. Macaulay said that he hopes that all will begin to develop a comfort with this tool and discover the pleasure of looking back at one's sketches. Click here to check out this blog! If you happened to walk past Dalton recently, you may have noticed two curious vehicles parked out front: a biodiesal and solar powered bus and an algae powered Prius. Students were able to talk to check out these innovative vehicles -- currently part of a national tour sponsored by the veggie van organization -- and chat with the veggie van staff.  Read More
