Music

The First Program music curriculum encourages youngsters to develop a love and appreciation for music making. Children learn about rhythm, notation, harmony, style, and interpretation through a combined Dalcroze/Orff approach. Movement activities, singing games, and the use of instruments introduce the different elements of music and reflect a variety of cultures and traditions. Students participate in group singing, part singing, and sing-a-longs. They are frequently taught special songs related to their classroom work. Dalton's First Program Chorus, for first through third graders, is enjoyed by many students and performs throughout the school year.
