Assignment

The Assignment, presented to students at the beginning of a new unit of study, is the second component of the Dalton Plan. The Assignment offers children a range of choices for exploring and learning concepts, activities, and skills within a subject area. An Assignment, which can be written on a chalkboard, on a sheet of paper, as part of a technology project, or as homework responsibilities, offers the young child an early lesson in how to structure his or her planning and working time and emphasizes the range of ways that a particular subject can be studied and represented in depth.
