Physical Education

Each Middle School student has physical education four times per week. In these classes students pursue a program rich in skill development and complemented with a variety of sports and game activities. Indoor classes are held at the 87th Street Physical Education Center and outdoor classes take place at Randall’s Island (children are bused to and from both locations).

Athletics

Official competition in the Middle School interscholastic athletic program begins in seventh grade. The goal of the program is for children to participate in interschool athletic competitions while learning the value of teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship. Dalton's Middle School athletic program has a "no-cut" policy; any child who wishes to participate on a team is given the opportunity. The sixth graders' outdoor curriculum is held at Randall's Island during the fall and spring.
