Student AccessEquipment
Students have public access to computers in labs, libraries, and classrooms. There are several carts of laptops that teachers may checkout for class use. Several grades and/or departments have a small number of laptops for their use. Additionally, equipment, such as cameras, can be checked out from NLTL.
One-to-one laptop program
Currently in the fifth year, the one-to-one laptop program gives students in grades 6-10 a laptop to use at school and at home if desired. Grades 4 and 5 have individual use of laptops that remain on campus. The school maintains the laptop and its software.
Course Management Course materials, assignments, homework, and major assessments are posted online using a learning management system located at courses.dalton.org. Using a LMS allows for student access to their work anywhere they have an interent connection.
Network Accounts
Beginning in the fourth grade, students are provided with individual user accounts in which they may store up to 10MB of academic work. Students are responsible for everything in their account including the security of the account's password. Students in grades K through 3 have shared classroom (House) network accounts. There is also space dedicated to group, department, and activity related projects.
Email Accounts
Students receive email accounts beginning in the fourth grade. Usage, however, is limited. Fourth grade students can receive email from their teachers. Fifth grade students can send and receive email to their classmates and teachers. Sixth grade students and older can send and receive internet email in addition to school-wide email users.
Internet Access
Access to the web is directed and supervised in the lower grades with more independent access in the upper grades. Web access is filtered on the school network.
