Workshop Curriculum

Week 1

Day 1-Laptop Ownership
The day is spent emphasizing the expectations of the program, unpacking the new computer, setting it up for use on the school's network and at home, and installing the software. The teacher performs the software installs and configurations with the guidance of the technology staff. Teachers sharpen their file management and organizational skills.

Day 2-Common Productivity Tools
The day is spent learning new skills and polishing up old ones in the common productivity tools such as the new version of Microsoft Word, FirstClass email program, and Acrobat PDF files. Part of the day is dedicated to brainstorming and planning curricular projects. Some teachers use tools such as Inspiration and Kidspiration to map these ideas.

Day 3-Graphics Use
Teachers use cameras, scanners, and the Internet to capture photos and graphics relevant to their curriculum or project. They use Photoshop Elements and iPhoto to manipulate the graphics to be used in other applications for use in their projects or curriculum. Dalton tools such as the Dalton Explorer and Primary Sources are demonstrated. Time is allocated for practice and collaboration.

Day 4-Multimedia/Presentation
PowerPoint, iMovie, and iTunes are the featured tools. Examples of projects are shown. Time to practice and consult with a technology integrator is planned into the day. A trip to the Apple Store is included.

Week 2

Day 5-Labs and optional workshops
Teachers learn HyperStudio, and TK3 , programs which link different types of media into a single 'document.' Graphics, sound, and text are manipulated and integrated into these programs. Lots of practice and collaboration time is built into this day.

Day 6-Library/Internet
The Dalton Library staff shows faculty how to explore the many databases to which the school subscribes. Time to search the Internet and these databases for information and resources for faculty projects/curricula is planned into the day.

Day 7-Course Management
The school uses tools such as Online Course Management, Forum Calendars, Grade Programs and Senior Systems to manage courses and resources. Teachers get a dose of these tools to help them with their productivity. Time to work with technology integrators to finish up projects is allocated.

Day 8-Presentations/Pizza Party
The morning is spent putting the finishing touches on the projects that will be presented to the whole group after lunch. After/during lunch, individuals present either part or all of the project they were working on during the two week professional development program.
