Communication

The Dalton web site and email are the main forms of electronic communication. The school sends out a weekly eblast to all families that contain news and upcoming events.

Email

The school maintains FirstClass communication and email server. All employees and students from the fourth grade and higher have Email accounts and use them daily. FirstClass supports the use of email conferences in addition to personal email. 

Telephones

The school's Mitel phone system combined with FirstClass Voice Services unifies the many communication vehicles such as voicemail, email and faxes. Most classrooms have access to phones for dial out. In addition, administrators, maintenance staff, and the athletic department use cell phones.

Emergency Phone Tree

The School uses an automated emergency notification system for emergency telephone communication to parents and employees.

Voice Mail

All administrators, teachers, and staff have voice mail which can be retrieved through their email or phone.

Intercom

The 87th St., 89th St. and 91st St. buildings have an intercom system installed for widespread and emergency announcements. 

Internet-Online Resources

The school currently has T1 and business-class cable connections to the Internet. All computers have the capability of connecting to the Internet. Internet access is filtered.

File Servers

The school maintains many file servers. Administrative, faculty, and student files are shared and stored according to needs. Daily and weekly backups are maintained. A mail, web intranet server, and several database servers are also maintained on campus.

Library

The library uses iBistro automated the card catalog system. Each division's catalog is accessible from any computer via a web browser. The library subscribes to many online databases for use in the curricula.

Laptop Programs

The summer of 2002 marked the introduction of a laptop program for teachers. This three-year program allows teachers to own laptops and receive technology learning and support during the summer and the school year. Learn more about the Faculty Laptop Program.
A pilot one-to-one laptop program for students was introduced during the 2007-2008 school year for Grade 6. It was continued in the following year. Grades 6 and 7 currently are involved in a one-to-one laptop program.

Fax

The school has several fax machines in use. Unified Communications allows users to receive faxes directly to their Email.

Web-Server (Web Site)

The school's external site is hosted off-site. The site is used for marketing and public information as well as internal community use. Daily, weekly, and seasonal changes occur. The intranet is hosted on site. It supports academic uses such Blogs, Wikis and Moodle and administrative programs.

Help Desk

An email-based and phone help line was set up in 2001 to facilitate questions and problems with technology related issues. This help line allows teachers and students to have one contact point for issues and a speedy reply to the problem. Nearly all issues are handled within the working day. Contact the NLTL.
