First Program (K-3)

Welcome to Admissions

First Program Admissions

Thank you for your interest in The Dalton School's First Program! We hope you have had the chance to browse through our website for information about Dalton. Our comprehensive, interactive school viewbook is another great source of information about our school.

We are delighted that you are thinking about applying! In order to apply to Kindergarten, all children must be 5 years old by September 1st, the year that they would be entering Kindergarten. The three requirements for completing the admissions process are listed below. All requirements must be completed to receive an admissions decision from Dalton in February. Please read through all of our instructions on "HOW TO APPLY" as well as our "RECOMMENDED TIMETABLE" to make sure you are thoroughly aware of Dalton's admissions process as each school's process is unique to them and may have different requirements and deadline dates.

Dalton will no longer be requiring or accepting ECAA (ERB) test results or any other testing for Kindergarten applicants. We do not administer the SRT.

    Spring Tours Update:

While we had hoped to be able to conduct Spring Tours, the COVID-19 virus has made this impossible. For this reason we have had to cancel all such tours.

Please know that we look forward to meeting you and your child in the fall and being able to provide tours at that time.

Until then all of us at Dalton wish you and your family a peaceful, safe, and healthy spring.
Fall Tours:  are available once you have applied.  Applications will be available in mid-August through mid-November. (Date TBD)

IMPORTANT: These are uncertain times when we are all striving to limit the spread of COVID-19 to keep you and our community safe and healthy. We ask the following of you:
    • Either you or a family member is feeling ill, especially if experiencing symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, or coughing;
    • You have recently traveled to a high risk country with large outbreaks of coronavirus. The Center for Disease Control is maintaining such a list. It is frequently updated so we recommend you check the status of a country to which you have traveled.
Your health and our community’s are our primary goal.   Making the decision not to attend a Tour/Visit will in no way affect your child’s eventual admissions process---as a matter of fact we will be most grateful for your honesty and for your thoughtfulness.
Please know that we have every intention of conducting tours/visits, however, in the event that it seems prudent or necessary to cancel them, we will do so and contact you before your scheduled visit.
It is very important that EACH parent bring ID to all Dalton visits.

    Applications for Fall 2021-2022 Kindergarten:

Please see the How to Apply tab for information and detailed instructions on how to apply once the application becomes available.

Open Houses are held in October.  Information will be available after Labor Day.

The optional "Dalton Beyond 91st Street" evening event features a panel discussion of high school students, and includes a tour of the Middle and High School.
