MS Students Tell Personal Stories with “Through the Door” Art Assignment

For their first art Assignment of the school year, 7th and 8th graders created their own “Through the Door” pieces to tell a story about their personal journey.
The Assignment tasked students with exploring aspects of their identity as well as their goals, hopes, and dreams for the future. Then, within the structure of a keyhole, students created pieces to tell a story of who they are and where they are headed.

The “Through the Door” Assignment served as a great way for students to hone their skills and converse with each other about their identities and goals for the year. The students fully embraced and ran free with this open-ended Assignment to create authentic and personally meaningful pieces!
