Led by Senior captains Lauren Barakett '23, Aggie Chan '23, Claudia Liu '23, and Nicole Swan '23, the Girls Varsity Soccer team is off to a flying start with an overall record of 7-2.
The team capped a five-game winning streak with a 7-1 rout over Trevor Day last Wednesday, which fell on the heels of two pivotal and tightly contested Ivy Prep League wins against Poly Prep and crosstown rival Trinity.
On the season, Junior midfielder Kiera Wing '24 leads the team with six goals scored, including a stunning early-season hat trick against Riverdale. Eighth grade winger Winslow Rowley '27 and sophomore goalkeeper/forward Izzy Wesley '25 each have five goals, respectively, while Junior midfielder Sasha Galbraith '24 netted a crucial brace in the team's scintillating Homecoming victory against Trinity.
After pushing through harsh conditions of mud and rain to pull out a second win of the season over Riverdale (2-1) this past Monday, October 3, the Tigers enter the second half of play with high hopes.
"It's going to be a tough road to get to where we want to be," said Head Coach Anne Gregory. "NYSAIS is our aim, but we're taking it one day at a time."
Assistant coach Avaleen Blake echoed Coach Gregory's sentiment, saying, "We have an amazing bunch of young student-athletes this year. They're willing to fight to the end, tooth and nail, and we can't ask for anything more. We're so proud, but there's a long way to go yet."
