Engineering Teams Earn First and Second Place In Dalton Hosted Superqualifier

Forty-eight teams throughout New York City gathered at the Dalton Physical Education Center to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge last weekend. The teams came from public, charter, and independent schools including Trinity, Horace Mann, Francis Lewis, Stuyvesant, and the Academy for Young Writers. All five of the Dalton teams competed with the goal of placing in the top 12 and moving onto the NYC Championship.
This year, the challenge consisted of designing a robot that could move around a 12'x 12' playing field to quickly collect a mixture of objects and then extend upward to score by depositing those objects into designated goals. The robots also used computer vision algorithms to locate targets; they then earned additional points by latching onto a hook two feet off the ground and pulling themselves off the floor.

The Dalton teams did an amazing job throughout the weekend, taking first place on Day 1 of the event and second place on Day 2. They also scored highly in the judged categories and won awards for programming and robot design.  In the end, all five Dalton Robotics teams did well enough to advance and will face off at the NYC Championship on March 10. Congratulations on a job well done!
