Dalton Student Wins a 2020 Scholar-Chessplayer Award
Akira Wood Nakada ’21 was recognized by the US Chess Federation and the US Chess Trust as one of five high school juniors and seniors who excel in academics, chess, and leadership.
Not only does Akira have a passion for chess, but he also enjoys supporting all who wish to play. He has volunteered to teach chess to Seniors for Checkmating Dementia. Akira also attended the World Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities where he assisted the players: He wrote moves and moved their pieces, helped reposition wheelchairs, reviewed their games, and gave the players attention and support. Akira also gave lectures at the training program. Aki is a team player and has provided continued support to our community, while he is still an active tournament player and also a Peer Chess Mentor.
Congratulations to Aki! You can read more in the US Chess Federation publication here.
