Track and Field Wins PSAA Championship

The Boys and the Girls won the PSAA (Private School Athletic Association) Championships on Thursday, May 12, a double victory that hasn’t occurred since 2015.
The Boys finished just ahead of host school Stony Brook to win the meet by 6 point margin, 217-211. Senior Beckett Radomisli won the 100 and finished second in the long jump and the high jump. Senior Connor Rust won the 1600 and led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 3200 with juniors Luke Rostan and Eli Diker finishing second and third. Senior Lucas Scott won the 400, leading a 1-2-3 sweep in the event by the Tigers, and placed second in the 200 behind Junior teammate Akari Hunte. Hunte also finished second in the 100. Mateos Halle-Manas led a 1-3-4 finish in the 800. Sophomore Xavier Henderson came in second in the 400 hurdles and the triple jump. The meet came down to the relays, and the 4x800 team of senior Mateos Haille-Manas, junior Beckett Hartig, sophomore Nick Freund, and freshman Gavin Aurelus was victorious. 

The Girls had a remarkable performance winning 14 out of the 15 events. Sophomore Naomi Gomel won the 800, 1500, and 3000 to earn the Most Valuable Player Award. She led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1500 with juniors Sofia Gulati and Ciara Balanza coming in behind her. Balanza came in second in the 3000, while freshman Ani Sharma placed fourth. Freshman Nyla Blake-Soden won the 100, Long Jump, and Triple Jump, breaking the school records in two of the three events. She also placed second in the 200 behind junior teammate Nicole Swan, who came in second in the 200.

Sophomore Danielle Jefferson won the 400 with junior Aggie Chan coming in 3rd. Seniors Myeh Medina and Solange Sylvain, and sophomore Sarah Thomas dominated the hurdles. Medina won the 400 hurdles while Thomas won the 100 hurdles. The trio placed in both hurdle races. Junior Lauren Barakett and senior Charlotte Sadelain came in second and third in the high jump. Freshman Izzy Wesley won the shot put and discus, while classmate Hana Rashid placed in both events as well. The Tigers finished the day winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
