A stunning repeat of last year’s victory, the Dalton Chess Team wrapped up spring break as the top US High School Chess Team, checkmating beyond 1,745 of the most competitive scholastic chess players in the country from 38 states this past weekend in Washington, DC.
The top scores of Iris Mou (8th Grade), Nate Shuman (11th Grade), Ryan Peterson (11th Grade), Gus Huston (11th Grade), William Safranek (9th Grade), Max Mottola (10th Grade), and Johji Nakada (9th Grade) clinched the title in a final day “nail biter.”
Congratulations to Iris Mou, who finished a remarkable 6th place overall as an 8th Grader! A special shout out to the outgoing seniors: Langley Beaudoin, Dylan Challenger, Sumit Dhar, Elize Dracopoulos, and Ryan Hale, with Langley and Dylan proudly representing the school team since Kindergarten. Additional teammates: (11th Grade) Veda Safranek, Narayan Topalli, (10th Grade) Max Massiah, (9th Grade) Sam Kaplan, (8th Grade) Jack Yang, and (6th Grade) Kevin Stern all contributed significantly to Dalton’s immensely successful showing.
