Cheryl Cohen Effron '83, Former Trustee & Board President

Cheryl Cohen Effron is a real estate developer known for her re-development of under-utilized buildings including the Falchi Building and The Factory in Long Island City, and Chelsea Market in Manhattan. Since then, she has focused on tri-sector—non profit, government and business—solutions for urban challenges.

She has served as a trustee of dozens of non-profit corporations in education, volunteerism, cultural affairs, and social service, and as a Mayoral appointee to the New York City Planning Commission. She has also served on a variety of New York City and State task forces and commissions.
She currently is treasurer of the Brookings Institution, chair of Greater NY, which she co-founded, and chair of the Charles H. Revson Foundation. She is a member of the board of the International Rescue Committee, Friends of the High Line, the American Museum of Natural History, the Markle Foundation, and Rethink Food. She is also a senior advisor to Tishman Speyer Properties.
She served as a trustee of Dalton for 17 years in numerous capacities including as chair of the Facilities Committee, Vice Chair, and Board President. She is married to Blair Effron with whom she has three children – two who graduated from Dalton and one who is a high school student.
