Ema (12th grade)
Entered Dalton: Kindergarten
Academic Interests: History
Extra-curricular Activities: Editor-in-Chief of The Daltonian, Captain of Girls Varsity Basketball
Favorite thing about Dalton: House and Lab (can't decide!)
Independent Study: Hamilton (in which we learned about early American politics through both primary sources and Lin Manuel Miranda's blockbuster Broadway musical. Outside of the classroom, we attended the premier of the PBS documentary "Hamilton's America," which was followed by a panel that featured Miranda and Ron Chernow, the author of the Hamilton biography that was the impetus for Miranda's musical. Best of all, as part of the class we attended the sold-out Broadway musical).
Favorite class at Dalton: History of the Modern Middle East
Favorite Dalton moment: In my 13 years at Dalton, my favorite moment was when Girls Varsity Basketball won the NYSAIS Championship. The championship game was on a Sunday afternoon against Poly Prep. The game was held in the Fieldston gym all the way out in Riverdale, yet the stands were filled to capacity with Dalton students and faculty. We defeated Poly, and when the buzzer sounded, a sea of blue and white (Dalton colors) stormed the court. It meant a great deal to my teammates and me that so much of the community attended the game to support us.
