Dalton Hosts Alumni Panel on Law School

Panel Moderators were Dalton Connects Committee Members Malcolm Hochenberg ’01 and Angie Cui ’16 with panelists ​Lisa Pino ’87, Jenny Edelman ’05, Tyra Walker ’08, and Zachary Cohen ’14.

The panelists shared their insights about law school, the jobs they held prior to law school — and how those jobs shaped their career paths. Panelists recommended connecting with professors who can help write recommendations or even suggest internships. Other advice included figuring out personal interests and learning from experiences to help determine areas of focus such as legal aid, non-profit, government, or even campaign work.

While in law school, recommendations included volunteering with different organizations, doing pro bono work, shadowing a deposition, or even working on law journals. Presenters emphasized the importance of asking questions, communication, time management, and keeping an open mind — along with having fun, honoring and paying attention to mental health, and creating the right balance between work and personal life.
