HS Students Virtually Create a Collaborative Painting from Around the Globe

HS students in Ms. Bowens Painting 1 class received a section of a mystery image with the Assignment to reproduce it in acrylic paint.
This assignment was a challenge because students did not know what they were painting, and each portion had to be accurate for the final collaborative image to make sense. As students submitted their individual parts, a piece fit into the puzzle revealing a portrait of American hero John Lewis.

Upon completing the collaborative painting, students watched a PBS video about Lewis, learning about his courageous work as a civil rights leader and representative of Georgia's Fifth Congressional District to the U.S. House of Representatives for almost 40 years.

The project was a wonderful way to unite students who were living around the globe (China, Massachusetts, Bronx, Queens, Long Island, and Manhattan). Ultimately, the students were pleased to see the results, proud of their collaborative piece, and happy to honor John Lewis together.
