Written by Bo Peponis
Read about some of the great performances and highlights from the past week. This week features a recap of Warren Hines Night.
Boys JV Basketball
The Boys JV Basketball team looked to rebound from a heartbreaking overtime loss at Trinity’s homecoming with a win on Warren Hines. The team has had an up and down year with a 5-6 overall record, including decisive victories and some difficult losses. The team started slowly trailing big in the first quarter. However, in the second half, they battled back and managed to cut the lead to three points in the 4th quarter. Some clutch free throw shooting from Trinity put the game out of reach for Dalton. The team next faces Riverdale at home on Monday, February 4th at 4:15 PM.

Girls JV Basketball
Headed into Warren Hines sporting a 2-1 record, the Girls JV Basketball team looked to deliver another victory over Trinity. The team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, led by a barrage of three-point shots from freshman Jeremy Jarecki as well as fast break layups from freshman Myeh Medina in the Tigers aggressive zone defense. The 35-27 victory gave the team their third win of the season. The team's next game is against Riverdale at home on Monday, February 4th at 4:15 PM

Wrestling
The Tigers' Wrestling team went 6-0 against Stony Brook during their Warren Hines meet. Daniel Carroll started the night off right for the Tigers, winning a hard-fought three round match via points. From there, the Tigers continued the steady wins with Graham Yarden, Jeremy Yarden, and Jamaal Spence all prevailing. The final two matches of the night were pin victories by senior captains Aidan Shepardson and defending state champion Elie Farah.

On Saturday, the team traveled to Hackley to compete at the Ivy Championships. The Tigers had a strong performance with five players finishing among the top three in their weight classes. Jeremy Yarden and Jamaal Spence came in third place, Jake Intrater placed second, while both Aidan Shepardson and Elie Farah each won their first Ivy Championships. Intrater, Shepardson, and Farah were named to the All-Ivy League team with their performances.

Girls Basketball
The Girls Varsity Basketball team entered Warren Hines looking to bounce back from a 51-39 loss on Monday against league-leading Horace Mann. A victory against Trinity would move the team to tie for second place in the league. They were feeling confident after beating Trinity 58-26 in the first meeting of the year. After a slow start, the Warren Hines crowd helped the team get into a rhythm, and after some stellar inside scoring from sophomore Tori Dacosta, the team finished the first half strong, leading at the break. Dalton dominated the rest of the game, holding Trinity to 8 points in the second half, and winning the game 38-20. This win puts the team in a great position to make the NYSAIS tournament at the end of the year with a 13-4 overall record. “Performing in the tournament is the main goal,” said captain Charlotte Leone, “If we keep playing like this, I think our momentum will give us a good shot to win the whole thing.” The team will take on Poly Prep at 5:45 on Monday, February 4th at the Dalton Gym.

Boys Basketball
The Dalton Boys Basketball team had a dominant win in the final game during Warren Hines Night against Trinity. The starters for the game included three senior captains Koby Bernstein, Brian Cromwell, and Boaz Shaham, along with juniors Matt Murstein and Mark Engel. Dalton jumped out to a great start with a double-digit lead in the first quarter. They never looked back coasting to a dominant 78-43 victory, bringing their overall record to 13-3. Junior Mark Engel continued his incredible season, scoring over twenty points while the Tigers shot well from the free throw line and beyond the arc. The team boasts a first place standing in the Ivy Prep league as the season winds down in preparation for states. The team travels to Poly Prep on Monday, February 4th at 4:30 PM.
