Read about some of the great performances and highlights from the past week. This week features Baseball, Softball, and a record breaking performance in Track and Field.
Baseball
The Varsity Baseball team scored 12 runs on Monday to beat Masters by a score of 12-1. The Tigers hit the ball hard from the 1st inning on with RBIs from seniors Tristan Sollecito (4), Koby Bernstein (2), Jared Shapiro (2), and freshmen Jack Lehman (2) and Zack Siegal. In addition to the strong offense was a dominant pitching performance from Senior Bo Peponis who threw a complete game with 9 strikeouts and just one walk. He was backed all game by great defensive plays including an over the shoulder diving catch by Lehman for the 2nd out of the 7th inning. On Wednesday Dalton defeated Fieldston 12-10, marking Dalton’s third straight game scoring 12 runs. After Fieldston fought back to take the lead 6-4 in the fourth inning Dalton responded in the top of the fifth with eight runs to take a 12-6 lead. This offensive outburst was fueled by Brian Cromwell’s two hits in the inning and fellow Senior Bo Peponis’ two-RBI single that tied the game. Junior Jake Ehrenkranz picked up the win for the Tigers coming out of the bullpen for 2.2 innings.

Softball
The Girls Varsity Softball team had another incredibly successful week. On Monday, they traveled to Masters and came away with a 26-7 win. The offensive outburst was led by 8th-grader Katie Hwang and Phoebe Cahill who each contributed 4 hits while senior Izzy Rubin continued her amazing season with several hits in this game. On Wednesday, the team resumed league play and again had a resounding victory, winning 19-9 against Fieldston. Fieldston entered the game a couple of games ahead of Dalton in the standings, making this a particularly crucial victory. Sophomore Noelani Wing allowed yielded just 6 hits to Fieldston in the victory. Finally, they played Trinity at Trinity’s spring homecoming on Friday, and for the third time, this week won big, this time 16-6. Senior Lulu Saghie and 8th-Grader Ella Gruenstein combined to drive in 7 runs. The team next plays struggling Riverdale, as they look to continue their success.

Track and Field
Zach Love became the first Dalton track and field athlete to win an event at the prestigious Loucks Games over the weekend. The senior, who was seeded second out of 88 competitors coming into the meet, jumped 24'3.25" on his final attempt to pull ahead of the previous leader. Love moved into the Top 25 in the country with that jump which was also equaled the third-best leap in the history of the meet that features top athletes from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Canada, Ohio, and many other states. Love had jumped 23'10" on his first jump of the meet which was his best ever until his final attempt.
