Dalton Tiger Report - This Week In Athletics (9-15)

Read about some of the great performances and highlights from the past week.

Cross Country

Dalton Cross Country started the season at the Regis/Lady Vikings Invitational on Saturday. The Boys team finished fifth out of twenty teams, outrunning Ivy League opponents Collegiate and Horace Mann. Senior Ari Eaton led the way, running just short of his personal best time when he crossed the line in 14:20 for the 2.5-mile course. He placed 20th. Sophomore Connor Rust was the next across the line in 25th place, completing the race in 14:45. Freshman Luke Rostan was the third Tiger to medal, finishing in 38th place in 15:04. Senior Ravi Eaton shattered his previous best run coming in at 15:10 _ 29 seconds faster then he had run the course before. Marcus Miyaska finished out the Dalton five. On the Girls' side, eighth-grader Naomi Gomel led the way placing 32nd overall with a time of 17:38 in her first varsity race. Junior Grace Chaikin wasn't far behind just coming in under 18 minutes in 43rd place. Senior Lauren Franco came through in 18:41 as the next Daltonian to finish. Senior Penelope Effron, junior Emily Saxl and sophomore Charlotte Sadelain rounded out the varsity field, all running well.

Boys Soccer

The Boys Varsity Soccer team started the week with a 2-2 draw in a non-league game against Berkley Carroll. This game was a warmup for some important league matches later in the week. These started on Wednesday when the team played host to a Hackley team coming off a win at Riverdale. Dalton put together a great performance, winning 2-0 courtesy of goals from junior Dylan Taub and sophomore Mateos Haile-Manas. Coming off a win against Hackley, the team was feeling great as they made the trip to Riverdale for another crucial fixture. Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead, with both goals coming from senior captain Marshall Miller, the team let the lead slip away and eventually fell 4-3 in extra time. A disappointing result from a good performance, the team looks to bounce back on Monday, September 17th against Trevor Day.
