This weekend Dalton hosted its annual homecoming, pitting Dalton’s fall sports teams against fierce rivals. The Tennis teams started off the action on Thursday and Friday. The Varsity team competed against Fieldston on Thursday falling 5-0 and still search for their first league win of the season. The JV team won their third match of the season on Friday winning all five matches.

On Friday night Dalton welcomed Trinity for JV and Varsity volleyball. The JV team played an excellent game but ultimately fell short in a deciding third set, 2-1. Varsity Volleyball set out to change some recent trends, as they had lost the homecoming game against Trinity for three consecutive years. However, the Tigers played exceptionally well, thwarting Trinity's offense with impressive returns by senior captain Grace Abrahams and junior Annabelle Schlesinger. Dalton stayed aggressive as fellow senior captain Jasmin Young dominated at the net and boosted by a loud Dalton crowd, the team came away with a monumental 3-1 victory.

On Saturday, the school shifted focus to Randall’s Island, as all of Dalton’s soccer teams were in action against Trinity, in addition to the football team's game against Newark Academy. The day began at 10am as the JV boys soccer team played Trinity. The team has started off the season very well having won three of their first four games. They continued this form, winning 3-2, courtesy of two goals from freshman Nico Breen, and a goal from freshman striker Danny Slater.

Varsity Boys Soccer and Girls Soccer teams were the next to play. The Girls Soccer team dominated for the entire game as senior captain Liza Katz got things started with a goal on a penalty kick to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. Freshman Nicole Swan continued her breakout season with her second goal of the year this one coming from a beautiful cross from junior star Lucy Patton. Patton put the game away with a rocket shot in the second half for the third goal of the game as Dalton prevailed 3-0 over Trinity. The Girls' team, with a 4-3 mark on the season that includes two close loses, travels to Horace Mann on Wednesday, looking to build on this momentum.

The Varsity Boys Soccer team entered their matchup with Trinity having dropped nine consecutive games to the back-to-back defending state champions. Trinity has not lost a league game in nearly two years and came into the game as heavy favorites. Dalton got on the scoreboard with two goals early and entered halftime with a 2-0 lead. Trinity responded early with a goal of their own after halftime leading to a back and forth second half as Trinity continued to pressure the Dalton defense. Sophomore goalie Andrew Kalish made a remarkable save to preserve Dalton's one-goal lead. Late scores from sophomore Mateos Haile-Manas and junior Dylan Taub, his second, put the game away as Dalton defeated Trinty by a score of 4-1. It was the first win for Dalton Boys Soccer on Homecoming in four years and puts them back into the middle of the pack of the league. They next play Horace Mann on Wednesday.

The day finished as Varsity Football took on Newark Academy. The game went down to the wire with Dalton scoring a touchdown to cut Newark's lead to 14-13 with just over 2 minutes remaining. Senior Evan Wolpert, who had scored the touchdown on the previous play, was stopped on a two-point conversion on the 1-yard line as Dalton went for the two-point conversion. Despite some last-second heroics, the Tigers fell just short. The team will now have two weeks off to prepare for rival Horace Mann on October 12.

Although the Cross Country team did not have a meet on Saturday they contributed to the spirit of the day leading the annual Fun Run activities that included over one hundred Dalton students participating in small distance runs, 1-mile, and 3-mile runs. Prior to Homecoming, the team had a fantastic week. The Girls team placed second in the first Ivy Developmental run, edging Hackley by a point. 8th-grade phenom Naomi Gomel led the way coming in third overall with a remarkable time of 17:02 in her first league race. Senior captain Toni DaCosta came in just one-second behind finishing in 4th place with a 17:03 time. The Boys team placed third in their race led by senior captains Ari Eaton and Ravi Eaton as well as sophomore Connor Rust who all broke the 15-minute mark.
