Dalton Chess Shines Bright at New York State Scholastic Championships

The Dalton School proudly sent 54 students to compete in the New York State Scholastic Championships 2024, held in Saratoga. This year, the event boasted a record-breaking turnout with over 1,700 participants from across the state, making it the largest gathering of scholastic chess enthusiasts to date.

Despite the persistent rain over the weekend, the atmosphere crackled with excitement as students engaged in intense competition. From Kindergarten to 12th Grade, Dalton's chess team showcased their skills and sportsmanship across various categories.

Gus Huston, a seasoned competitor from Dalton, secured the High School Championship for the second consecutive year. His remarkable feat not only underscores his dedication and talent but also highlights the strength of Dalton's chess program.

Led by WIM and Life Master Beatriz Marinello, Dalton's coaching team provided tireless support throughout the tournament. Thank you to FM Lenny Kadishev and Chess Teachers Alexander Kure, Nelson Dunn, and Adia Onyango for guiding and mentoring the students throughout the weekend.

Our Tigers placed in the top 10 places in all the sections where the team participated.

Dalton's chess coach, Beatriz Marinello, expressed pride in the students' achievements and emphasized the invaluable skills honed through chess. "I am very proud of the resilience of the children. The work continues," noted the coach. Their accomplishments are a testament to their dedication and the supportive community at Dalton."
