Dalton HS Political Action Club Pushes for Voting Rights in Albany

The Dalton Political Action Club joined the Campaign Finance Board for their "Voter Advocacy Day" in Albany on Tuesday, May 2. The twenty students who attended met with legislators to ask them to sponsor four election reform laws: 1.) The Voter Empowerment Act (A2278, S3304), 2.) Early Voting (A2064, S2950), 3.) The New York Votes Act (A5312), and 4.) Preclearance (A5925).

Legislators also invited the students to a Senate session. Co-heads Zoe Davidson ('19) and Alex Lehman ('19) spoke at a press rally alongside Senator Stewart-Cousins, the head of New York Public Interest Research Group, and others, urging their representatives to pass the legislation. The Dalton advocates also enjoyed a photo opp with Assemblywoman Deborah J. Glick, who represents District 66 in Lower Manhattan and who serves as Chair of the Committee on Higher Education. The day was incredibly successful, and students were delighted to see democracy in action.
