Kindergarten Students Learn About Lunar New Year Traditions and Customs

Kindergarten parents visited classrooms to talk about Lunar New Year celebrations, customs and traditions. Students were shown typical clothing worn by children their same age; they counted in Chinese, made lanterns and learned how everyone is wished good luck, long life and wisdom.
A highlight of the celebration was when the entire Class of 2030 gathered together to hear Middle and High School Mandarin Teacher Adam Lanphier read Who Wants Candied Hawberries?, a book written by Dongni Bao and translated by ‎our very own World Language teacher Adam Lanphier. The story tells the tale of a traveling candy vendor in the hutongs of Beijing and his unlikely customers. A combination of magic realism and beautiful illustrations, this story was a perfect way to celebrate Lunar New Year celebrations at First Program. Gongxi Facai!
