Teachers & Alums Go Forth To Dance in Senegal

Dalton Dance teachers and alums made a long journey to Tambacounda, Senegal, West Africa in early 2018 to join an artistic, agricultural and cultural center named "Thread." Director Nick Murphy collaborated with filmmaker Josh Izenberg to create a beautiful short video, released early this summer and included in the story details below.
The professional development opportunity was Inspired by Dalton Arts Chair Randi Sloan and supported by Dalton; The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, The Dance Education Laboratory, and the US Embassy. The latter of which arranged for the ambitious group of American and West African dancers to converge, collaborate and create in Eastern Senegal. Dalton Alums Sam Pratt '10, Amadi Washington '10, and Dalton Dance Teacher Jasmin Simmons danced with the Senegalize and are featured performers on the video. St. Ann's Dance Teacher Jamal Jackson also joined.

In her on-camera interview, Randi remarked:

"From the moment we all arrived and came into the dance space at Thread, there was something electric - it was just this energy, and everyone was willing to receive and to delve into new territory, and everyone was learning from each other."
