Dalton Students Take Part in Ellis Island Simulation

Dalton Grade 4 students transformed into tired, poor, huddled masses to experience what it was like to emigrate to the United States in the early 1900s.
On Friday, October 19, the Class of 2027 participated in Dalton's annual Ellis Island Simulation, where they celebrated the diverse cultures who traveled to the U.S. to create a better life for themselves and their families.

Throughout the day, students underwent the same rigorous routines and procedures that Ellis Island immigrants endured, including official inspections, medical examinations, legal hearings, money exchanges, and writing postcards to their loved ones who didn't make the voyage. The day concluded when students "sailed" back to the Dalton theatre to take House photos and reflect on their short time as newcomers arriving in a strange, new land.

We'd like to thank the dedicated parents, faculty, and staff who volunteered their time to make this wonderful event possible!
