Dalton Tiger Report - This Week In Athletics (2-17)

Postseason Tournament Update
Congratulations to the Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, and Squash teams as they qualified for postseason tournaments. The basketball teams will have a doubleheader at Trinity School on Wednesday, February 20. The Girls team seeded 5th and finished with an overall record of 18-5 will take on #12 seed Leman Prep at 5:00 PM. The 3rd seeded Boys team who finished 19-4 this season will play the #6 seed Riverdale at 7:00 PM. Squash qualified for the NYPSSC Tournament as the #4 seed and will play Masters at Hackley on Friday, February 22 at 6:00 PM. Please check the Athletics website for the most up-to-date information.

Boys Basketball
The Boys Basketball team clinched the Ivy League championship for the second consecutive years with three victories this week. Trailing for much of the game, Dalton pulled against to beat Hackley on Monday, February 11. On Wednesday, Dalton battled Poly Prep, who previously defeated the Tigers earlier this season. Dalton got off to a commanding early lead with a  36-22 advantage and held on through a high-scoring 4th quarter to win 76-63. Junior guard Mark Engel continued his high scoring ways with 32 points. Dalton entered Friday's matchup with Riverdale, who also won their first matchup, with an opportunity to clinch sole possession of the Ivy League championship. The game was a defensive battle with both teams exchanging runs. Senior Brian Cromwell punished Riverdale inside and on the boards, leading the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while juniors Matt Murstein and Peter Haas carved up the defense attacking the paint and combining for 27. The Tigers survived a late rally by Riverdale for a 67-63 win. With the three victories, Dalton finished up the regular season with an 18-4 record overall and a 12-2 record within the league.

Indoor Track
The Dalton Track and Field team had an excellent performance with a number of personal records set at the Ivy Championships on Thursday, February 14. The Boys' team placed 5th in team scoring highlighted by record-setting performances in the Long Jump and Triple Jump by senior Zach love. The 4x200 relay team, consisting of Daniel Simmons, Zach Love, Elijah Henderson, and Nick Lipsher, placed third overall and established a new school record of 1:37.9.  Now members of the team will prepare for the NYSAIS championships on Thursday, February 21 at The Armory Track.
