Dalton Tiger Report - This Week In Athletics (10-27)

Read about some of the great performances from the week.
It was a historic day for the Dalton Cross Country team at the Ivy Championship race. The Tigers finished second on the Girls side and fourth on the Boys side. The second-place finish was the best place Dalton has finished since winning its lone championship in 2010. The Boys' placing was the second-best in school history with only the 2006 team that came in third doing better.

The Girls team was led by eighth-grader Naomi Gomel, who finished third in the competitive race, shattering her previous best time by 21 seconds. Gomel's 16:32 was the fifth-fastest ever by a Dalton female runner. Senior Toni DaCosta was sixth earning first-team All-Ivy honors for the third time in her career. Junior Grace Chaikin and senior Lauren Franco came in 10th and 12th overall, earning second-team All-Ivy honors and giving Dalton four runners under 18-minutes for the first time in school history. Freshman Mary Ashley Groot was the fifth Tiger to cross the line cutting 40 seconds off her previous best time and giving Dalton a34-point margin over third-place Hackley.

The Boys had a great race as well with senior Ari Eaton leading the way. He became the sixth Dalton runner ever to break the 14-minute mark coming in just under that impressive time. He finished ninth overall, earning second-team All-Ivy honors. Sophomore Connor Rust was the next Tiger to finish placing 16th, shaving 15 seconds off his previous best time. Senior Ravi Eaton was third across the line for Dalton with junior Daniel Simmons right behind him. Freshman Luke Rostan completed the first five and gave the Tigers a 10-point edge over fifth-place Horace Mann.

The JV Boys and Girls and freshmen also had a great day with 16 of the 20 runners shattering their previous best season bests.

Dalton will finish up its season next Sunday at the NYSAIS championship meet running a 5K.
