Dalton Tiger Report - This Week In Athletics (1-12)

Read about some of the great performances from the week.

Swimming

The Boys and Girls Varsity swim teams have had an exciting first half of the season with both teams defeating Dwight on December 16. This year many new swimmers have joined the program and with several talented returners, both Boys and Girls teams have been competitive in a challenging Ivy League. This week both teams fell to Trinity on January 10 at their homecoming but continue to work to improve as they prepare for the Ivy Championships next month.

Wrestling
The Dalton Wrestling team kicked off 2020 by winning all three of their matches this past week. On Wednesday, January 8 they faced Rye Country Day and Long Island Lutheran in a tri-match. Led by senior captains Jeremy Yarden and Jamaal Spence, as well as junior Niko Ramirez, the team emerged victorious over both non-league foes. On Friday, January 10 Dalton earned their first Ivy League win over Trinity behind a great effort by Jeremy Yarden. The team will be back in action on January 25 at the Martin Luther Invitational, before taking on Churchill and Stonybrook in a tri-match on Warren Hines Night on January 31.

Indoor Track
The Indoor Track team continues to see improvements as they prepare for the league and state championships at the end of the season. This season has seen both records and personal best performances for several members of the team. Freshman Hannah Cenedella had a record-setting performance in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:51.21 meter run by Hannah Cenedella. Junior Beau Radomisli placed 4th overall in the team's most recent developmental meet and posted a 6.95 just a few shades off of the school record of 6.8 set in 2000. In the Boys 300, 3 students finished in the top 15 - senior Ari Eaton (39.80), junior Daniel Simmons (40.27), and sophomore Lucas Scott (41.73). Dalton will participate in two more developmental meets before the Ivy League Championships on February 13.

Girls Basketball
With three wins since the winter break, including a 56-30 victory at Trinity's homecoming, the Girls Basketball team is off to a 9-2 start. Dalton is currently 2nd place in the Ivy League with a 4-1 record in league competition. The Tigers have been paced in scoring by freshman Mary Ashley Groot and junior Tori DaCosta with the dynamic duo both averaging over 15 points per game on the season. Groot recently had 27 points, 17 rebounds, and 6 blocks in a victory against Rye Country Day School. The Tigers host Fieldston on Monday, January 13 before taking on defending state champion Masters on Wednesday.
