Dalton Contingency Plans and Staying Healthy – Message from Jim Best - 03/2/20

Dear Dalton Community,

With the confirmation of New York State's first coronavirus case last night, we want to reassure you that Dalton's COVID-19 Task Force has been meeting daily to make contingency plans and update protocols. Along with prioritizing the health and safety of community members, our leadership team is preparing for the possibility of implementing remote learning. Click the title (above) to read more...

Contingency Planning:

As part of our contingency plan, division directors are meeting with department chairs and grade level leaders to create assignments and set expectations about work away from school. In the event of school closure, we’ll use our existing technological platforms (House Bulletin Boards-FP; Classes-MS and HS) to deliver ongoing programming.

To facilitate planning, tomorrow (Tuesday, March 3), we'll dismiss HS students at 12:35 PM (Interval) to allow faculty to collaborate, solidify assignments, and coordinate logistics. The MS schedule will be modified to allow for cross-divisional faculty participation. We'll dismiss FP and MS students at the regular time. Encore and Serendipity after school classes will run as scheduled.

Staying Healthy:

Health professionals continue to emphasize the importance of general disease prevention. At Dalton, we're deep cleaning our buildings and are encouraging everyone to wash their hands, practice good respiratory hygiene, and recuperate at home when they're not feeling well. For additional recommendations on how to stay healthy and avoid the spread of any communicable disease, please refer to Dalton's Coronavirus (COVID-19) resource, a website repository of helpful links and information found under Resources.

We continue to consult local, state, national, and international health and educational resources and talk with community medical and public health professionals for the latest, most accurate information. Our reliance on these expert sources is informing fact-based, methodical decision-making. We'll continue to be in touch with any new developments.

Sincerely,

Jim
