Digital Dalton K-5: Device Pick-Up Details - Message from Jim Best - 3/19/20

Dear Families of K-5 Students,

I've got some important news to share about digital devices, but what I want to say before that is: I'm thinking of you. We're thinking of you.
And: if you're feeling confused or concerned about school or the city or how this is all going to work—that's OK. Actually, that's more than OK—it's normal. We're here to help each other. We'll figure it out.

All right. Here's the information. It's about Digital Dalton, which we've been planning for and working on—even before the COVID-19 crisis hit.

Digital Dalton will launch on March 30. We want to make sure that every K-5 student has a device (an iPad in Grades K-3, a laptop in Grades 4-5) that will allow them to participate in our online experience.

If your child needs a device—please make plans to pick it up at a convenient time, at the appropriate location:

Dates:
  • Friday, March 20 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Monday, March 23 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Monday, March 30 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Locations:
  • K-3rd Graders - 91st Street - iPads
  • 4th & 5th Graders - 89th Street - Laptops
If you indicated in our tech survey that you didn't need one, then later discovered that you do—that's OK. We've got a device for you. Stop by when you can.

If you have technology-related questions, please email the good people at New Lab at help@dalton.org. They're also a good place to ask about helpful apps and digital resources.

If you have other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your Division Director.

Let me share two thoughts as we move forward:

First, even though we're shifting to online learning, we're all still very real. We'll still be communicating in ways that remind us that we belong to a community and that we're present for one another.

Second, our faculty and staff are working incredibly hard to make Digital Dalton inspiring and engaging. That said, we're all very aware that this will be a new experience for everyone. When we hit rough spots or get frustrated (and we will!), let's be kind and patient and understanding.

Sending courage and good wishes-

Jim
