Expert Science Educator from Black Rock Forest Visits Environmental Justice Club

Angie talked about her journey of becoming a scientist: from her original desire to be a veterinarian, to working in a Lab, to doing field research in many different sites, to finding her way to Black Rock Forest studying plants and climate change. She explained how Black Rock Forest has been collecting data on tree species in the forest for the past 80 years, and how it seems that certain tree species are no longer found in the forest and some are new to the ecosystem. She wondered if that could be connected to climate change? Angie also explained that although trees cannot physically walk like many animals, they can move to new locations by way of seed dispersal. We were thrilled to have Angie share her story with us, and we hope to have her, and other Black Rock Forest researchers, present their findings with our school community in the future.
