Dalton Perseverance Front-and-Center at K-5 National Chess Championship

Twenty-nine Dalton students participated in the National Scholastic Online Chess Championship, an eight-round event that spanned two full days.
Dalton Pride was on full display as students donned their chess team shirts while competing from the comfort of their homes.

Round-by-round, students reviewed their performances with coaches as they sought ways to gain an edge on the competition. The coaching staff provided unwavering support throughout the tournament and helped the team achieve high-ranking finishes across the board.

The K-1 team placed 3rd out of 25 teams, the K-3 team placed 5th out of 51 teams, and the K-5 team placed 4th out of 46 teams.

On the team’s performance, Head Coach Beatriz Marinello said, “I am very proud of every child who represented the Dalton Chess Team this past weekend. We made a great effort and supported each other. I have the deepest admiration for our team. The children did an amazing job in this marathon event. My appreciation to our team of coaches for their commitment and professional work! Go Tigers! Go Dalton! We couldn’t be prouder of these children and their perseverance, determination, and of course, their chess prowess!”
