Grow Fourth Update! Indoor Gardening Club Takes On New Challenges
Dalton’s 4th grade indoor gardening club Grow Fourth is exploring challenging endeavors in 2022.
Led by Assistant Director of the Middle School for Operations Sloan Warren, the club meets weekly to tend the hydroponic garden at Dalton East, plant new seedlings, and learn about plants.
After successfully growing greens and herbs for the teaching kitchen in the fall, the club voted to try a much harder challenge – edible flowers.
Among other flowers, the students tested a variety of sunflowers under different conditions and had an unexpected result: A strain of sunflower commonly used only outdoors was thriving. Now, the students have a 7-foot tall sunflower growing at Dalton East, which has led to a new challenge - it's so big that they can't get it through the door to reach the sink!
