Studio Works Makes Debut with Student-Led Dances

Studio Works, a new informal performance opportunity for students to share their unique voice with the school community, made its debut this week at the 89th Street Dance Studio.
For the first-ever performance, High School students from Exploring Dance Forms, Contemporary Dance and Improvisation, and Intermediate Dance Technique classes presented student-led dances from various choreographic styles and movement genres.

Exploring Dance Forms kicked off the show with a salsa jazz routine to Dizzy Gillespie's "Manteca" music, followed by CDI's Pina Bausch-inspired choreography, and IDT's presentation of Lester Horton based choreography.

The event concluded with a joyous celebration in which participants and guests danced the "Cupid Shuffle" together, led by MS/HS Dance Teacher Andre Zachery's Exploring Dance Forms class.

MS and HS Dance Teacher and K-12 Dance Department Chair Joanna Brotman, and all the performers and organizers, thank everyone who joined them for the event in person and spirit. Joanna added, "Your cheers and wishes of support were incredibly meaningful and created the encouraging atmosphere that has us all looking forward to the next one. Bravo to all!"
