Michelle Marcus earned a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA in Art History and Archaeology from Columbia University. Before becoming the Resident Art Historian and Museum Educator at the Dalton School, she split her time between college teaching, curatorial consulting, and writing about the art and archaeology of the ancient Near East. Her academic publications include one book and numerous articles in such peer-reviewed journals as Art Bulletin, Art History, and Oxford Art Journal – all supported by post-doctoral fellowships from the Metropolitan Museum, the Getty Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. She is currently preparing a publication about the uses of the past in contemporary art, based on a paper delivered recently to the College Art Association.

Stephanie Fins earned an M.Phil. and M.A. in Anthropology from Columbia University. In addition to her work with Dalton students and faculty as the Dalton Lecturer at the American Museum of Natural History, she has also taught, in-service courses and workshops for the Museum, as well as for the NYC Department of Education. Prior to her current position, she taught anthropology courses at The Cooper Union and NYU School of Continuing Education. Her publications include the co-authored book, Far Away and Long Ago: Young Historians in the Classroom, and articles based on her dissertation fieldwork in the Peruvian Amazon funded by NIMH. She curated the anthropology section of the AMNH Discovery Room. An earlier oral history collaboration resulted in a photo essay exhibited at the New Jersey State Museum, funded by The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
