World and Classical Language Teachers Celebrate Second Annual FLES Event

Dalton celebrated its second annual FLES Fest event, on Saturday, May 14, with 100 K-8 world and classical language teachers from over 50 different schools from seven different states. (Some from as far away as Rhode Island and Missouri!) Educators gathered to hear a keynote address by Dr. Helena Curtain, world-renowned presenter, teacher trainer, and author of the book: Languages and Learners: Making the Match.
Participants then met in grade-alike and language-alike groups to discuss topics ranging from pedagogy, best practices and methods, materials, and the incorporation of technology into the language classroom. Teachers enjoyed the opportunity to network with colleagues from different schools and appreciated the swap activity in which we all shared our best activities and materials – after all, the unofficial motto of the day is “Sharing is caring!” The event was co-sponsored by the Dalton World and Classical Language Department and NNELL – the National Network for Early Language Learning. Dalton teachers Carmen Campos and Carmen Herrera served on the organization committee. The event was established last year by Director of the World and Classical Languages Lori Langer de Ramirez, in honor of the late Dr. Mari Haas, who was an inspirational teacher educator and K-8 teacher of Spanish.
