Frida Kahlo Day

The Spanish Language and Culture class celebrated its annual Frida Day. Students and faculty come together to celebrate Frida Kahlo. Frida represented endurance and determination to many because she lived true to herself rather than conforming to the status quo. Dalton students commemorated an individual who, against all odds, significantly impacted society as an artist, a woman, and a person. Unafraid to express herself through her art, her clothing, and her words, Kahlo portrayed raw, controversial, and authentic sides of herself in ways that were uncommon for a woman of her time.
Frida contrasted painful life experiences by painting with vibrant colors, highlighting her survival in the face of life's hardship. Although she lived a difficult, short life, Frida used the lessons she learned to help her flourish as an artist and relentless revolutionary. All in all, her determination, talent, passion, and progressive mindset are emblematic of Dalton’s mantra, making her a role model for students who wish to Go Forth Unafraid.

To celebrate Frida’s legacy, many students wore flowers in their hair. This was not a dress-up day or masquerade; rather, it was an opportunity for students to honor Frida while expressing their own style.
