Comidas Deliciosas in the Spanish Classroom

The last week before Winter Break is a time for all kinds of celebrations. MS and HS Spanish students visited the 14th floor teaching kitchen to make – and eat! – treats from the Spanish-speaking world.
With the help of HS Computer Science Teacher and trained Chef Charlie Forster Stewert, MS students learned about arepas, a corn cake from South America (mainly Venezuela and Colombia) and made both white and yellow corn versions. They topped their creations with guacamole, mole (a sauce made from chocolate and chiles), and queso casero (cheese). High schoolers made chilaquiles, a traditional Mexican breakfast dish. All students tried their creations and discussed the experiences – en español – once back in their regular classrooms.
