The annual Dalton Student Leadership Conference attracted high school student leaders from Dalton and their faculty mentors, Trustees, current parents, Dalton alumni, administration, staff, and students, administration and faculty from peer independent schools.
The event centered on the personal experiences of leadership as shared by three distinguished panelists including; leadership consultant, Steve Boehlke, actor/playwright Najla Said, and ABC news reporter, John Quiñones. The panelists answered a series of questions, prepared by student organizers and Sage Sevilla, Director of Diversity. A Dalton student Chanae Williams '12, conducted the proceedings asking the panelists to respond to questions on formidable life experiences which impacted the course of their lives and their growth as leaders in their respective fields. Part 2 of the conference took place on Saturday morning and was open to Dalton high school students and students from peer independent schools. Facilitator Steve Boehlke led a three-hour workshop designed to explore the myths about leadership and concrete ways to develop tools for leadership in a Global Age.
This student conference is an initiative cited in the Diversity section of the Dalton Strategic Plan (2007).
