Dalton Athletics Wraps up a Stellar Winter Season

Dalton teams wrapped up a standout winter season that included an undefeated regular season for the Girls’ Basketball team and new school records in both Indoor Track and Varsity Swim.
Both Dalton Basketball teams qualified for the NYSAIS Class B Tournament this season. The Girls' Basketball team wrapped a perfect 23-0 regular season with a victory over Poly Prep giving the team their third consecutive Ivy League title. Seeded #1 overall, Dalton enters the NYSAIS Tournament on a 35-game winning streak. The Boys’ Basketball team was seeded #4 after a 16-7 overall finish this season. Dalton scored big wins this season, including knocking off previously undefeated Poly Prep and Regis, one of the strongest CHSAA teams, at the Coaches vs Cancer Classic. Both teams will host home games on Wednesday, February 21, with the Girls playing first against #8 seed Staten Island Academy at 5:00 PM and the Boys taking on #5 seed Riverdale at 7:00 PM.

The Indoor Track team had a season's worth of solid performances. Freshman Adelaide Bae set a new school record in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:42.73, while Senior Dani Jefferson's 41.46 time in the 300 qualified her for Nike Indoor Nationals Emerging Elite. At the prestigious Millrose Games, the Girls 4x400 team set a new school record and just missed the national qualifying standard in the relay with a time of 4:15.13. The Ivy Championship this past week featured top 3 finishes from Boys 4x400 team (3rd), the Girls 4x200 and 4x400 teams (3rd), Kannon Hunter ‘26 (1st, High Jump), Rohan Shah ‘25 (1st, Pole Vault), Dani Jefferson ‘24 (3rd, 55 meter dash & 2nd, 300 meter dash), Annika Maduraperuma ‘26 (3rd, 55 meter hurdles), and Margeret Bassey ‘26 (2nd, Triple Jump). The team is now preparing for next week's NYSAIS Championships on Wednesday, February 21, at 5:00 PM at the Track & Field Center at The Armory.

The Varsity Swim Team wrapped up its Ivy League Season at the Championship meet on Wednesday, February 14. The meeting featured both a personal record set and a broken school record. The highlight was Freshman Kate Casciato, who finished third in the 50 free and second in the 100 free. She also set a new school record by swimming the 100 free in just 56.37 seconds. The team's top swimmers now prepare to compete in next week's NYSAIS Championships.

Dalton Wrestling wrapped up its season with solid performances at the Ivy and NYSAIS Championships. Junior Alex Wlodarczak and Sophomores Carlos Rohm and Stephan Leathers finished first in the weight class at the Ivy League Championship. At the NYSAIS Championship the following week, Juniors Sami Uyanik, Alex Wlodarczak, and Carlos Rohm, and Freshman Stephan Leathers, qualified for the state federation tournament in Albany next week.

The Dalton Boys and Girls Squash teams qualified for the NYSAIS Tournament this year. Although both teams fell to the #1 overall seed in their respective tournaments, it was a positive season for both teams. The Girls had their strongest season in their third year as a team, finishing 9-7 overall.
