  • Collaboration

The High School library curriculum centers information literacy skills and the research process, focusing on academic resources and the ethical use of information through proper citation. We collaborate closely with content teachers to plan experiences that teach these skills in the context of classroom learning. In addition to classroom instruction and guided searching, the High School librarians conduct over 500 individual labs each year to assist students in their many academic and personal pursuits. Some major collaborations are "The Way They Lived Then" project with 9th grade History, the Cities project with 10th grade History, 9th grade biology research, and poetry resources for 10th grade English.

  • Program

The High School library is a dynamic, student-centered environment that offers a robust variety of programming throughout the year. Each week, we have a period of DEAR (Drop Everything and Read), which is a no-tech time in the library space, Wellness Wednesday with fun, hands-on activities, and game time for students to play with friends. All of these programs are in service to Dalton's commitment to bettering the health and wellness of students. We also organize events such as Breakfast and Books, a House reading challenge, HeroCon, and – in collaboration with the Creative Writing Department – the Dalton Literary Festival, to provide access to authors and creators and help foster a lifelong love of reading for pleasure.
