Seven Dalton Seniors Set to Continue Athletic Careers

Eric Duick
Dalton Athletics held a commitment ceremony on May 6, 2026, honoring several senior Tigers who will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and teammates, the student-athletes were recognized by Director of Athletics Teddy Frischling ’89, who highlighted their accomplishments during their time at Dalton.

Emma Casselman will join the Yale University gymnastics team. While Dalton doesn’t have a gymnastics program, Casselman competes in uneven bars, balance beam, vault, and floor exercise at Gotham Gymnastics in Brooklyn.

“After talking to many schools, Yale was the obvious choice for me,” Casselman said. “The girls and coaches are so hard-working and supportive of each other. On top of the incredible education, I loved the sense of teamwork that’s ingrained into the athletic and academic culture.”

Casselman boasts 50 gold medals between events and all-around competitions. The senior is a 12-time state qualifier, eight-time regional qualifier, and three-time national qualifier. Casselman owns two state championships and two regional titles.

Kannon Hunter will high jump at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Hunter won the Ivy League high jump championship and placed second at NYSAIS.

“Morehouse has always been one of my top choices,” Hunter said. “I have a lot of friends that are there and family members who went there. Overall, it was a pretty easy choice to make. Athletically, the team has been having a lot of success recently, and me being able to add to that is something that drew me to the program.”

Hunter ranks 11th in New York in the high jump and holds Dalton’s outdoor record at 6-5. The senior tied for fourth at the Loucks Games, which is considered the biggest meet on the East Coast. Hunter heads to the New York State Championship Meet on June 14 in Rochester.

Noah Khalid will play a postgraduate basketball season at The Newman School in Boston, Massachusetts. Khalid averaged 29.7 points per game last season and scored a Dalton record 2,013 career points.

“I reached that decision (The Newman School) by talking with my family and basketball coaches both at Dalton and outside of Dalton,” Khalid said. “Next year is just a year to improve and get bigger and stronger. After that, I’m looking forward to the future and seeing where I can play college basketball.”

Khalid produced four 40-point games and set the boys single-game record with 49 points versus Avenues in the Dalton Invitational. The New York Sportswriters Association named the senior Class A First Team All-State. Khalid was a four-time First Team All-Ivy honoree.

Mathias Osback looks to extend his football career at Kenyon College. Osback was a three-time All-League defensive lineman for the Tigers.

“I really felt that urge to play at the next level at the end of the season when I realized it was my last game,” Osback said. “I felt like I wasn’t ready to stop, so I heavily pursued playing during that time. The most convincing thing was when I went to visit campus and got to feel what it was like on the average weekend for a player on the team. It just felt like I was one of the guys.”

Osback produced 14 tackles for loss last season. Dalton football coach Cory Cowles played center at Kenyon, and Osback’s former Dalton teammate Alexander Stewart ’25 will be a sophomore linebacker for the Owls.
Carlos Rohm will be a University of Pennsylvania walk-on wrestler. Rohm delivered the top performance in Dalton history at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Individual Championships, tying for ninth at 175 lbs.

“I was there (Penn) over the summer training, and I got to know the coach well,” Rohm said. “I wasn’t going to get recruited, but walking on is all the same. As long as I got on the team, it would be great. I got to come to a couple practices and know all the guys, so it was a lot of fun.”

Rohm is Dalton’s third-ever two-time NYSAIS champion.

Astou Toure will play basketball at Babson College. Toure tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds per game last season, becoming the third Dalton Girls Varsity Basketball player to average a double-double. Babson discovered Toure at a showcase.

“After having a call with the coach, I realized that was definitely the school for me,” Toure said. “On my visit, I fell in love with the school, coaches, girls, and everything. I’m super excited to play at the next level, just leveling up my game and playing with people who are competitive and there with 100 percent commitment.”

The New York Sportswriters Association selected Toure Class A First Team All-State after she led the Tigers to their fifth consecutive Ivy League championship. Toure was a three-time All-League selection and helped Dalton secure three NYSAIS titles.

Lucy Schell committed to Middlebury lacrosse, which recently claimed its fifth straight Division III national championship. Schell scored a Dalton record 268 career goals and dished 58 assists.

“I chose Middlebury because their team is really good and it’s pretty fun to watch,” Schell said. “I love the campus and their academics are so good. I’m so excited, and it will be fun to keep playing and trying new positions.”

Schell was a four-time All-Ivy selection in lacrosse and a three-time All-Ivy selection in soccer. Including basketball, the senior completed 14 varsity seasons and won seven Ivy League titles.
