A Process of Discovery and Creativity

An Artistic Journey Shaped by Process, Not Perfection

Arts at Dalton is built on a core philosophy: learning happens best through hands-on exploration. We provide the environment and tools for students to make their own creative discoveries, encouraging them to see every challenge as an opportunity to rethink and refine and every blank space as a new possibility.

Throughout a student’s time at Dalton, the arts evolve from foundational exploration in the early years to interdisciplinary Assignments where they engage deeply in creative projects that blend disciplines — such as combining language arts with music or visual arts with history.

Through dance, theater, music, and visual arts, students are empowered to take risks, push boundaries, and discover their unique creative voice.

At the heart of Dalton’s arts program is our faculty — practicing artists whose expertise and passion inspire students’ imaginations and offer guidance that extends beyond technique.

Highlights of Artistic Engagement

Each year, nearly one-third of graduating seniors pursue seminar-based independent studies in Visual Arts, Music, Theater, or Dance. The programs often culminate into community-wide exhibitions and performances, showcasing how creativity and self-expression are integral to a Dalton education.
