Izzy Wesley '25 Named State Player of the Year, Headlining Dalton Basketball Accolades
Dalton’s Izzy Wesley '25 has been named the 2024-25 New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) Class A Player of the Year after a dominant senior season that helped lead the Tigers to their fourth consecutive NYSAIS State Championship and a 25-1 record.
Wesley finished her career with over 1,000 points and 500 assists. She was a driving force behind a historic stretch that included a 58-game winning streak, the second-longest in New York State girls basketball history, and four straight undefeated Ivy League seasons. Wesley will continue her basketball career next year at Brown University.
Nyla Blake-Soden '25, also on the girls basketball team and a key contributor who scored over 1,000 career points, earned Second Team All-State honors. Blake-Soden was a dominant defensive force during the Tigers’ championship run and will attend Brown University next year to compete in track and field. Additionally, Astou Toure '26 was named to the Eighth Team All-State, recognizing her strong play throughout the season.
For the boys basketball team, Noah Khalid '26 earned Class A Second Team All-State honors following a prolific scoring season. Khalid became just the third player in Dalton history to surpass 1,000 career points as a junior. He was a relentless offensive force, averaging 23 points per game and totaling over 600 points for the season — one of the highest single-season point totals in Dalton history. Khalid also recorded six 30-plus-point games for the Tigers, who finished 19-7 and advanced to the state championship game before falling short in the finals.
