Luyen Chou ‘85 Presents to Faculty & Staff on AI in Education
Earlier this month, as part of the ongoing work of Dalton's New Lab for Teaching and Learning and the AI Committee, our community was delighted to welcome back Luyen Chou ‘85 — educator, entrepreneur, and a technology leader — to speak at an all-faculty & staff presentation.
A former member of the Dalton History Department and New Lab, Luyen’s visit offered a meaningful opportunity for our educators to reflect on Dalton’s values in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.
Drawing on his experiences as a Dalton student, classroom teacher, founder of several K-12 schools in New York City, and CEO and founder of DeweyLearn, Inc., Luyen led a thoughtful presentation on learning science and the growing role of artificial intelligence in education. He emphasized a human-centered approach focused on curiosity, conversation, collaboration, creativity, compassion, and critical thinking.
Luyen’s insights reinforced the enduring relevance of the Dalton Plan and Dalton’s mission to challenge each student to develop intellectual independence, creativity and curiosity and a sense of responsibility toward others.
As AI continues to shape the future of learning and the workplace, we’re grateful for Luyen’s insights and the thoughtful dialogue it inspired as we continue to actively reflect on how best to support our students’ learning at Dalton — now and in the years ahead.
