Dalton Tigers Going Strong at the Winter Midseason Point

As the winter season moves along, Dalton teams are playing hard and setting the tone across league play and beyond.
The Boys Varsity Basketball team sits tied for first place in the Ivy League. Dalton is 11-3 overall and 5-1 in conference. Key Ivy wins include come-from-behind victories versus Riverdale and at Fieldston. Junior Kaya Karakaplan drilled a go-ahead 3-pointer in the 63-61 triumph against Fieldston on Wednesday, January 7. In December, Dalton defeated Avenues 91-51 to clinch its third straight Dalton Invitational title. Senior Noah Khalid set a boys single-game record with 49 points in the championship. Dalton next visits Collegiate this Wednesday at 4:00 PM.

The Girls Varsity Basketball team enters the week 11-3 overall and tied for first in the Ivy League at 6-1. Dalton topped Poly Prep 43-42 last Friday after the Blue Devils were previously undefeated in conference. The Tigers overcame a 12-point deficit in the last four minutes as senior Kellen Calloway connected on the game-winning free throws with .8 seconds left. Dalton competed in the prestigious She Got Game Classic in Philadelphia last weekend, going 1-1 in the tournament. The Tigers previously continued their dominance of the Dalton Invitational with a 45-31 championship win versus Packer-Collegiate. Senior Astou Toure delivered 10 blocks and 18 rebounds. Dalton returns to action with a home game against Albany Academy this Saturday at 4:00 PM.

Dalton Wrestling hits the mats at the Donald Douglas Tournament at Michael J. Petrides School today. The Tigers are 5-3 in duals and have been highly successful in tournaments to date. Dalton placed second among seven schools at the Lexington Holiday Invitational a month ago. Seven Tigers wrestled, and all earned either gold or silver. Seniors Carlos Rohm and Stephan Leathers, juniors Chris Brown and Errol Henry, and sophomore Hank Weller all captured first place. Rohm and Weller also won titles at the Martin Luther Invitational last weekend while Dalton finished third of 13 schools. The reigning NYSAIS champion Rohm remains undefeated this season.

The Varsity Indoor Track team continues to produce notable performances, with many Tigers achieving personal bests. Highlights include senior Kannon Hunter setting school records in high jump (6’6”), the 300-meter-dash (36.36 seconds), and the 55-meter-dash (6.76 seconds). On the girls side, the 4x200 meter relay team ran the second-best time in Dalton history (1:48.06), and freshman Isabella Canada set a program record in the 600-meter-dash (1:40.66). Dalton looks to build off its strong start in the next meet on Wednesday, February 4 at 5:00 PM at Ocean Breeze.
