The students of House 43 have been studying the Silk Road, a route for the exchange of goods, beliefs, ideas, stories and music. We welcomed Nurmira Greenberg, a musician from Kyrgyzstan to share her culture and expertise with us. Nurmira demonstrated a variety of instruments including the komuz, oz komuz, kyl kiyak and cello. She shared ancient tunes, complicated playing techniques and even sang a lullaby that has been passed down orally through her family for generations. At the end of her presentation, the students had the opportunity to try out the instruments. (See more photos below)
